Getting Creative Again - Summer Edition

June 29, 2020

During the beginning of the quarantine and schooling, I was actually enjoying our family projects. Whether it was organizing something new in the house, playing a new game, or even doing a science experiment, sometimes it would be a "real crazy day" and we would do all three of those things in one day. :)
After three months of this somewhere, I kind of stopped. We fell into a rut, a little too much time on our electronics for everyone (including the adults), didn't go on our daily walks because of the rain, and just lost our creative mojo. Now with COVID numbers increasing in Texas, we have to continue to stay home.  So this means this momma needs to step up her quarantine game and I hope you will join too.

I will share some ideas on the Facebook page so please join if you haven't already, and please feel free to share your ideas too, remember we are all in this together!

Here are some ideas:
Be active - I think one of the best things we can do for our minds and souls especially during this time is being active. If we stay in our house, kids too - and don't get fresh air it will get to us, maybe a little more irritable, or maybe just feeling blah... So get out, go on a walk, bike ride, maybe visit a new place for a change of scenery.  Challenge yourself, challenge your family!

Create a list of things you "never had time for" because everyone was busy with work, school, sports, and other things. Make it your Summer bucket list of things to do and try.
Maybe things like family board games, painting a room in the house, repurposing a desk, writing a letter to a friend, cleaning out the garage, family dance party with glow sticks (yes that's on my list), camping in the backyard or even the living room.

In The Kitchen - something I learned about my 11-year-old is that she really enjoys baking during quarantine. She doesn't necessarily eat it all the time, but she really enjoys creating something and having the family enjoy it. Pick out some fun things to make and work with them with your kids, you never know they may discover a passion in the kitchen.

Fancy Dinner - Do you miss getting dressed up a little, how about transform your dinner table to a fancy restaurant, complete with a menu (my kids love doing this) nice set up, and don't forget to dress for the occasion.

Do your kids really enjoy something like art, legos, creating things, well join them! The other day my husband who also enjoys drawing sat outside with my daughter and drew something together. It was a nice time to just appreciate time together without rushing around. My son loves sports so anytime we can we are outside having a catch. It's the little things that really go a long way sometimes.

Zoom, facetime with friends. During the school year, my kids were on zoom more than my husband working from home, I really enjoyed them seeing their teachers even if it was just for a little. Well, why not coordinate with some friends to have an online meetup. It's great for them to talk to friends or even with family and keep in touch.

Movie Night - if you have a set up to have a movie night outside go for it! If not make your movie night extra special, create a movie theater experience right in your living room all with special snacks, and a fun set up.

If you got in a little quarantine funk like me how about we restart now and make the most of this time we are asked to pause a little.

Be safe Houston
