LOVE IS @ Discovery Green Fundraiser

February 12-14

January 15, 2021

Discovery Green invites the public to bring a loved one, family or pet to have their photo taken in front of pop artist Jim Dine’s The House (Heart) sculpture in the first ever LOVE IS @ Discovery Green fundraiser to be held Feb. 12 – 14. For a $15 donation to the park, participants will have a commemorative 4 by 6-inch photo taken in front of the distinctive artwork which features a bronze cast heart.

Reservations can be made beginning Jan.15 at 9 am at www.discoverygreen.com/love. Photos will be taken on Friday, Feb.12 from 5 - 8 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 14 from 1 – 4 p.m. The House (Heart) sculpture is located in Maconda’s Grove at the corner of Avenida de las Americas and Lamar Street. Reservations made in advance ensure a spot in line. Walk-up reservations for photos will be accepted as availability exists.

Props and decorations by Houston designer Yahaira Dehill will be on hand to make each person’s image unique and suitable for framing. Kinder HSPVA Creative Writing Department’s XOXO Studio will be onsite crafting original Valentine’s greetings. With proof of donation, participants receive half-off admission to The Grove restaurant’s Valentine’s Dessert Bar.

All participants will be required to wear a mask or proper face-covering, except while posing for their photograph. Social distancing guidelines will be observed during the event. Forever Green Members will be able to skip the line after making their donation.

Since 2008 Discovery Green has been a place for all Houstonians to spend time with a first date or to make a magical memory with family. Memorialize those moments this Valentine’s Day weekend with a very special photo opportunity.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Discovery Green Conservancy, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that operates and maintains the park and offers free programming to highlight the diversity of traditions in Houston. The park is funded 100 percent by charitable donations to the Discovery Green Conservancy. It is listed as a 4-star charity by Charity Navigator.
