Getting Through This Tough Time

Local Resources

February 22, 2021

I think this is the first time in a long time I took a week off from sending out my newsletter. What a crazy week, there really is no other word to describe it. We went from freezing weather, worrying about pipe breakage, no electricity, and having no idea when it was coming back on, no cell service, to no school, and so many other things in between. Just speaking for myself there were so many mixed emotions for my family. There was pure excitement of having snow, to then having to deal with freezing nights without electricity. We were layered up and cuddled up with my three kids along with several blankets on top of us (which is not an easy task especially with a toddler who doesn't like to sleep with a blanket).  Then the sound no one wants to hear, running water spraying where it is not supposed to. Thankfully our issue was in our garage and thankful for a handy neighbor who was able to cap the pipe for us so we had running water after he was able to find some materials.  After not having running water for a couple of days you truly value something as simple as a hot shower.

While we still have to get our situation fixed and had to replace everything in our refrigerator and freezer it's not much compared to others. We have several friends with much worse damage. My family has only been in Texas for a little over three years and moved here right before Hurricane Harvey. I couldn't believe the damage all around, but the way the community came together was not like anything I have ever seen. The same goes for this situation, we had neighbors checking on each other, our community Facebook page offering help to anyone that needed it. We collected boxes and garbage bags for those with bad damage. Once again Houston was faced with a challenge and the community really steps up. There is a long road to recovery but in time we will get through this. #HoustonStrong
