Embracing Differences Through Sensory Fun

By Macaroni KID Downtown Houston - Pearland March 31, 2025

April is Autism Acceptance Month, a time to celebrate neurodiversity, foster understanding, and amplify the voices of those in the autism community. For many families, autism is not just a diagnosis—it’s a unique and beautiful way of experiencing the world.

As a mom writing this and always trying to instill compassion, community and inclusivity in my son, it is so important to understand each other's differences in personality, learning, playing, and all in between. And better yet to have those conversations with your child instead of a blanket response of "they're just different" when asked. In turn, I wanted to use this month of Autism acceptance to share a conversation and source the perspective of a parent with this experience.

Enter local mom, Halima, who by way of learning her two children were autistic turned it into a celebration, so to speak. By way of starting her mobile business, Senserly Fun, a few years ago, she was able to immerse herself into the neurodivergent community beyond her home and be a go to in the city for inclusive and customized sensory entertainment. Sensory play engages a child’s senses—touch, sight, hearing, smell, taste, and movement—encouraging exploration, interaction, and learning about their surroundings. I met Halima last September, doing what she does best at a fest. I was drawn to her setup and vibe. My son played and interacted with other children and did not want to leave the bins she set up! I knew the day would come when I could team up with Halima and showcase what she does and introduce her to you.
